Stitch on Prints and Aurifil Giveaway

Stitch On Prints

Welcome to "In The Boon Docks - Stitch on Prints"

A few of the things I use to create my projects

Thread

Recently, a reader asked me what was some of my favorite things to use to sew with and listen up: I love Aurifil threads in any weight! I sew with Aurifil thread because I truly believe it is the best thread to sew with it. Aurifil glides through fabric whether I am machine sewing or hand sewing!

Machine Sewing - It does not leave a bunch of thread dust (I don't know the technical term for the crap that gathers on your machine! Making you have to clean out your bobbin case after every project!). I do clean mine out often but that is another post! I use other 50 wt thread because honestly I do not own ever color Aurifil makes, which is a lot, and I pay for it myself. I won a sample pack on another blog and tested the 50 wt. on my sewing machine no breakage, and not a lot of thread dust. That means a lot to me because I hate both! I bought the 50 wt…

First, if you are looking for the Giveaway click HERE!. Welcome to all the new followers and thank you all for sharing about your favorite birthday presents! I will say we have a lot of iPads and Kindles out there! I am still trying to get threw all the comments! The best thing for a blogger is a full inbox! I had a giveaway once with only 5 people, so this is really Awesome! Yippee! (I am jumping and kicking my heels together).

I really haven't posted anything lately because I have been grieving! Yesterday, I decided I had better do something (to pull myself out of this) so I cut up the Lorax panel and a few strips to sew a boarder on then sewed the background to the main fabric on the first block for the Skill Builder BOM. The lesson is excellent, I followed the step-by-step instructions with no problems at all. The hardest part was choosing the colors I would use. I finished the block this morning, it is called "Soundwave" and I am sooo happy with it! The Ombre …

The Covert Robin

I have signed up for:
I am working on a pouch for my partner in theModern Scrappy Bits Swap. I am using Perle Cotton to outline the boxes on both the front and the back of the pouch. Having never done this before it is a mystery how it will turn out but I do like the colors. Pairing Robert Kaufman, Kona Solid "Coal" and a mini charm of V and Co., "Simply Color" makes for a bright and happy pouch.. Here "In The Boon Docks", it is very cold and windy! A good day to stay inside and sew! Thank you for stopping by and please consider signing up at Rachael's Imagine Gnats forThe Covert Robin. The link will take you right to her door to find out more. Enjoy your day! Lisa

Modern Scrappy Bits Swap

Image
This is why I love participating in Flickr Swap Groups. I received a package in the mail the other day from the secret partner who got my name this round. There are thousands of swap groups going on at the Flickr site always needing people to join. Modern Scrappy Bits is in round 2 and I am hoping there will be a round 3! Danielle was responsible for sending me one fat quarter of scraps and a handmade item of her choice and she made me this beautiful mini quilt. So happy with her handmade, she is very talented. Thank you so much Danielle! This is the backing fabric! Sorry, don't know the name of it but it is really pretty! Modern scraps - oh how I love all these little pieces! Danielle sent me a wide range of scraps and definitely more than a fat quarter! Yippee fun! I like this so much because some I may not have ever boughten for myself but once I see them, I love them. On the other side, I might have it on my list of wanting at end of season, when they go on sale, and …

Traveling Stash Update

Have you heard about the Traveling Stash? I have a box I will be sending on to some lucky winner! If you are interested please click HERE and leave a comment. U.S. only due to mailing costs!Fabric Basket

I got all my scraps together and made this little basket! I modified the pattern I used for the Patchwork Fabric Basket (that I blogged about here) by using 3 1/2 inch squares, (3) on each side (instead of the patchwork). I hope my partner in Modern Scrappy Bits Swap! Round 2 likes it as much as I do! I made this basket with scraps and have no idea who designed the fabric but I love it! I hope you decide to try something new this week! I would love to see it! Leave me a comment and I'll stop in and have a look! Thank you for stopping at "In The Boon Docks", Lisa!It is Tuesday so I am linking up with Connie @ Freemotion by the River. Thanks Lisa

Japanese X and + Block.

Image
I completed my first block for the Scrappy So Bee It! I was so nervous and excited! I hope Carla really likes it. Does anyone else get that way when sewing for someone else? Just curious, it would be nice to hear that sewing makes someone else a little crazy! It was a successful pattern to me. I had wanted to sew the block for over a year, and very excited to finally done it: Japanese X and + block. Carla's quilt will be really beautiful, I will be excited to see block placement, and the finished quilt. Until Later, Lisa

Scrappy? Sew bee it!

Image
I am really excited to have been invited to join a group of very talented people in a "Sewing Bee". I am a little scared but excited for the challenge that this opportunity will bring. Scrappy Sew Bee It. Each month a member choses a new block for the group to sew. Then the blocks are sent to that person for their own quilt. I am looking forward to August 2013 when I think it will be my turn to chose a block. Until then I will look forward to completing new blocks with someone else in mind and color combinations I might not have considered. I cannot wait to get started. My mother informed me that when she was young these where called "Friendship Quilts". This is just on a world level. WOW

I have the blocks from my Great Aunt Caroline's friendship quilt from "1932". I would like to be involved in this to share with my grandchildren a completed quilt that showed woman from all over the world working on a collaborate effort and it is in "N…
