"Spider Mini Quilt"Size: 9 1/2" x 9 1/2"Fabrics: Spider & Borders - Holiday Homies, Tula Pink, Freespirit, Background & Backing - miscellaneous 5" solid squares Binding -Rocacco Grunge, ModaThreads: Piecing & Quilting - Aurifil 50 wt thread 2000 (Light Sand), Raw Edge Applique - Aurifil 50 wt thread 2692 (Black) Binding - Aurifil 50 wt thread 2250 (Red) So who takes the Christmas fabric and makes a Halloween mini quilt? That would be me!Tutorial Print and cut out a random spider 3" or so. This helped when I raw edge applicated it on the 5" square! But I am getting ahead of myself. I outlined the spider on some iron on double sided interfacing! Then centered everything on the red cross in the green square. Ironed it on the 5" x 5" square. Sewed the raw edge applique then the web string. I am sure there is a better word, but I cannot think of it! Sew the 2 1/2" borders on, match at top, trim! I do sides first then to…

ALYOF January Goal

My goal this month is to finish the Noodlehead Super Tote, I started at Thanksgiving as a gift for my Cousin's Wife Teresa, she is such a nice person, and like many of us is always carrying around a project she is working on. Poor lady didn't get a Christmas Present because I was to busy tending to my recovering Husband. My wonderful cousin went home after Thanksgiving and came back again to help us when my husband came home from the hospital and did my Honey Do List, he is ju…

Hobo Bag Finished

Image
A UFO that had been hanging around for months got finished this week! Yippee! I used Tula Pinks fabric line "Nightshade". The first time I saw Tula's pirate girl all I could see was my oldest daughter when she was little. She really wanted to be a pirate or a ninja turtle. Now, at 27 she is an independent beautiful woman living in NY state. So maybe she will think of me when she uses this to carry her groceries. It is quite big, my mother said big bags like this where called "hobo bags" in the 60's.
Above is the inside, Nightshade Apothecary in Vapor, with two big pockets, Nightshade Spider Blossom in Vapor.

Below is the back! I used Nightshade Raven Lace on the strap and opening. Nightshade Storm Clouds for the back and front. This is the appliquéd front of Netunia Von Black from Nightshade Coven in Vapor. The model is Joyce my very helpful Mom! Who said the bag could just stay here! I packed it up and will mail it tomorrow with my daughter's ot…

A Little Nightshade/Heat N Bond Tutorial

Image
I have to admit one of my favorite designers is Tula Pink! I am working on a present for someone special!

When I saw "Nightshade" I had to have some for my little pirate girl. It is hard for me to picture my children as adults. I always see that little person who played in the wild flowers and danced as a sugar plum fairy. Am I the only one who sees their children this way? How to use Heat N Bond Lite

First cut out the design you want to appliqué, with at least an inch on all sides in a square.

Cut out a square of Heat N Bond Lite 1/2 inch smaller than the fabric square.

Lay the Heat N Bond bumpy side up on an ironing surface and put the design right side up on top of it.

Make sure your design is completely covered underneath by the Heat N Bond, and no Heat N Bond is sticking out from under the fabric.

Using a hot iron with the steam turned OFF to press the two together. Slowly and with even pressure. I start from the center and pick my iron up to move it instead of slidi…

I called Designer Tula Pink

Image
I did something fun yesterday,do you wanna know what I did. As you know, I live in the boon docks, WV, not a place normally Tula would come for a book signing. Yesterday, I read she would be at a certain quilt shop signing books. I called the store in the midwest and talked to her very nice mother, who was with Tula. I did ask her if Tula Pink was her real name and she told me yes. She asked me to hang on, next thing I know I am speaking to Tula herself. She laughed when I told her I was in WV and wanted to have her sign her new book for me. She said sure thing, she'd put it in the mail today. I cannot wait, it has really great patterns in it I hear. I was so excited I bought some Prince Charming fabrics, so I would be ready when it arrives. She is a very talented designer and very nice. Look for her at Tula Pink (click on tula's name and go there).
