Spooky Delights Quilt Along Week 3

Image
Welcome to Week 3 of the Fat Quarter Shop Spooky Delights Quilt Along! Each week the FQS will release a new step in the pattern by Anne Sutten. You can download the Spooky Delights Quilt Along Week 3 Borders For the 2 1/2" border I used (2) The Boocrew Moda Mini Charms by Sweetwater. Precuts sometime come in handy when a pattern calls for a standard size. I had been saving these for just the right pattern! So instead of cutting I could jump into chain piecing. Aurifil 2310 50 wt. is my thread of choice for piecing! Border 1 and 3, I used Cotton Supreme Solids by RJR Fabrics. But, I made a mistake instead of measuring my first border to make sure the 2 1/2" border would line up without trimming! I just cut and sewed (excited to finish up) and didn't realize it until I had sewn border 2 on already. It may look a little wonky but I am so very happy with it! Halloween here I come! Next to baste, quilt and bind! Spooky Delights Quilt Along Bloggers! There are some …

Farmer's Wife 1930s Em 30

Image
Hello and welcome to "In The Boon Docks", my home in blogland, as an Official Blogger for the Farmer's Wife 1930s Sampler Sew Along! This weeks block is #30 Em. Angie's tutorial of Gnome Angel Em is Block 30 of Farmer's Wife 1930's Sampler Quilt - GnomeAngel. Without Angie there would be no sew along, she is an expert organizer besides her other career success'! I have to admit I love this block and hate it. I picked out a few seams putting it together. I used the Foundation Paper Pieced (FPP) method to piece the block with its many little tiny squares and half square triangles. Lining up everything at the end proved to be a bit difficult for me but I won the battle in the end and I am quite pleased with my block.A few tips that may help you with this block. First, recently I found using a 11 needle in the machine helpful when sewing FPP blocks with a stitch length of 1.6. Next, it makes it much easier to sew the FPP pieces together if the fabric is…

Block 39 GrandmaHello Everyone! Well here we are at my day for posting in the Farmer's Wife 1930s Sampler Quilt Sew-along, The day after Thanksgiving for those of you living in the USA. I have seen so many beautiful blocks in all kinds of fabric combinations that you can view in the Facebook Group. This is the first of four post I will be doing over the next year. I am a Blogger of the week. Exciting and scary at the same time. I am very grateful to the Fat Quarter Shop, and Gnomeangel for giving me the opportunity to participate as an official blogger. The letter for this block from a woman of later age really hit home for me. She reminded me of my grandma. Grandma came to live with use when I was 2. She had married young, raised 5 children, on a farm not 5 miles from her parents farm, her birthplace. When the last child graduated from high school and married she came to live with us to help care for me while my parents worked. She was a strong woman who had never left…
