Retreat Bag 2.0

Image
I love Santa Fe by Sara Watts as soon as I saw it in the Culcita box I knew I wanted something special.  My husbands birthday was coming up so I decided on a medicine pouch! It had to be big and different!
I saw a post on IG for the Internal Wire Frames for the Retreat Bag 2.0 by Emmaline Bags it said the pattern was free. I am sorry I don’t remember the shops name.  The frames for the large where $4.00 so I bought 4. I figured if it proved to hard I’d sell the rest. But if I liked the pattern I had them on hand to make more! Do you ever do that? Sometimes I end up with a bunch of junk I will never use.  But not this time! He loves the bag!  It is big and roomy!

It has two pockets.
 Problems for me
Never sewn a zipper on the outside of a bag before. So, I searched on YouTube and found a video tutorial on sewing the bag by Birdcage and Thread. She does a great job explaining everything you need to do to make the bag.

The hardware intimidated me! How in Heaven was I going to sew bars into t…

Tula Spider Mini Quilt

Image
"Spider Mini Quilt"Size: 9 1/2" x 9 1/2"Fabrics: Spider & Borders - Holiday Homies, Tula Pink, Freespirit, Background & Backing - miscellaneous 5" solid squares Binding -Rocacco Grunge, ModaThreads: Piecing & Quilting - Aurifil 50 wt thread 2000 (Light Sand), Raw Edge Applique - Aurifil 50 wt thread 2692 (Black) Binding - Aurifil 50 wt thread 2250 (Red) So who takes the Christmas fabric and makes a Halloween mini quilt? That would be me!Tutorial Print and cut out a random spider 3" or so. This helped when I raw edge applicated it on the 5" square! But I am getting ahead of myself. I outlined the spider on some iron on double sided interfacing! Then centered everything on the red cross in the green square. Ironed it on the 5" x 5" square. Sewed the raw edge applique then the web string. I am sure there is a better word, but I cannot think of it! Sew the 2 1/2" borders on, match at top, trim! I do sides first then to…

Whats up In The Boon Docks

Image
Blueberry Park fabric just cheers up a room! I finished quilting the blocks and turned turned them into pillows. Covered up my old and worn couch pillows. In The Boon Docks: Sewing and Family is where I wrote about making these blocks and how I did it. I started working on this Alison Glass embroidery pattern while my daughter was in the hospital! I drew it out using the hold it up to the window method (light box) with the fabric over the pattern, using my washable pen. So, when I am all done was the ink away with a washcloth! Only problem it gets kinda wrinkly. If I iron it the steam it my take away the drawing. My Floss StoryKnowing I would not have a sewing machine available for 2 weeks I packed projects I could work on in the hospital! I packed this pattern and a variety of Aurifil Thread weights. I was going to do this project with all Aurifil Floss, but somehow the floss bag got left at home. Instead, I only had 12 wt., 50 wt., and 80 wt., so I used what I had! I am very…
